PE Investment in Banks on Pace to Double From 2009

by: Research Recap

60 Commercial Banks have been involved in Private Equity deals since the beginning of 2009, according to the PitchBook Platform.

Deal activity in the industry is continuing to hold strong with 30 deals already completed and 14 announced but still in play. By year’s end, 2010’s deal count could very well end up doubling 2009’s 18 deals. Yet despite the increase in deal volume, the median deal size has remained relatively steady from 2009 to 2010 YTD, only nudging up from $105 million to $106.7 million, indicating that investors are buying more at about the same price.

Of the 51 PE investors who have invested in Commercial Banks since the start of 2009, the most active include Stone Point Capital with 7 deals and Lightyear Capital with 5.
