This morning, both Yahoo Finance and AOL money & finance reported that Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) is maintaining its worldwide PC market share at 17 – 18% for the quarter, and gained market share in consumer notebooks. The company’s overall PC sales increased approximately 24% from last year. Dell (DELL) retains a 14 – 15% worldwide market share but PC sales dropped 9% from a year ago.

Earlier I posted on both companies and commented on the resurgence of Hewlett-Packard and the troubles of Dell. I believe both trends will continue for the near future. I still believe that HPQ is a better long-term investment due to its printer and ink and services businesses. Dell’s advantages are low cost distribution and manufacturing efficiencies. Both can be replicated or at least matched.
