For the U.S. technology company, being headquartered in Silicon Valley is akin to a badge of honor. A Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, or Palo Alto address is seen as more than a headquarters. It is seen as a source of pride, innovation, and long-term potential. But it does not necessarily a source of profit. For every Silicon Valley company posting record revenues and/or profits, there are just as many that have not even begun to move towards sustained profitability. Many investors have ignored this fact, and have subscribed to the belief that it is only this new wave of companies that can thrive and create value for shareholders.
