Oceaneering International: Efficient Scale, Cost Advantages, And Intangibles Grant A Narrow Moat

As I learn about investing, I've become more and more attracted to Morningstar's "Economic Moat" methodology. Though we're all pretty familiar with the concept of an economic moat by this point, Morningstar adds a few twists. Starting with the definition of an economic moat as the quantitative and qualitative factors that allow a company to drive excess economic returns through market cycles, Morningstar then considers the moat's durability. The degree of excess economic profits, in their view, matters less than the likelihood of sustaining that advantage over time, and the companies that they view as capable of sustaining advantages over a 10-year period earn their "narrow moat" rating.
