A look at the top performing S&P 500 stocks so far this year shows that some stocks have had a huge reversal of fortune in 2011. As shown, this year's top three performing stocks (National Semi (NSM), Dean Foods (DF), and Goodyear (GT)) were all in the top 50 in terms of performance last year.
Dean Foods is the most notable reversal. Last year it was the worst performing stock in the S&P 500 with a decline of 51%. This year the stock is up 54% making it the second best performing stock in the index.
Of the top fifteen performers so far this year, only two -- Wynn Resorts (WYNN) and Netflix (NFLX) -- were on the list of best performers last year.
