Washingtonpost.com (WPO) has taken a hint from Slate.com, the online magazine it owns, with the launch of a one-stop for print opinion from around the nation. Just as Slate's Today's Papers links to big story coverages in various publications, The Editorialist summarizes op-ed columns in big papers.
The Editorialist is compiled by Rob Anderson. He calls it, "the CliffsNotes version of who's saying what, where and how." He previously worked for the New Republic and its Web site.
The Editorialist also links to commentary pages of about a dozen magazines and 11 other opinionated blogs and Web magazines.
(It'd be too much to hope that all The New York Times pieces would be included, to avoid that 'Times Select' subscription gate. Alas, no Friedman or Dowd this morning.)
Speaking of opinion, whatever happened to editorials by broadcasters? Years ago, general managers would speak their minds, generally about local issues. Not much of that in broadcasting today even on the Sunday morning talk shows.
