Powerset - the stealth linguistics search engine - that wants to trump Google (GOOG) in the search wars, is raising about $1 million to $2 million in additional funding. Word has it that Amazon (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos is going to invest some personal funds.

This is interesting for a couple of reasons:

1) Powerset, which I wrote about yesterday regarding its Xerox (XRX) deal, and in November 2006 regarding its nearly $13 million in funding and some $40 million valuation, is an impressive search engine that actually improves upon the search experience.

2) Bezos is definitely interested in improving the search experience with Amazon's A-9 search engine. A-9 is a fairly useful search engine, but it could use some improvement. Maybe a linguistics component might help.
