Latest short interest figures for the second half of May were released last Friday, and showed a general uptick in short interest for both the NYSE and Nasdaq. Within the S&P 1500, 33 stocks that have more than 25% of their float sold short. Five of those names (FSLR, AN, SHLD, ANR, and GME) are from the S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SPY), eight are mid caps, and the remaining 20 are small cap stocks. Currently, Northern Oil and Gas (NYSEMKT:NOG), Coinstar (NASDAQ:CSTR), Cal-Maine Foods (NASDAQ:CALM), and First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) top the list with short interest levels above 35% of their float.
