The Best Performing U.S. Stocks at the Halfway Point

A couple of posts ago, we provided a table showing year-to-date asset class performance. Below we take a look at the best performing stocks so far in 2011. A total of 36 stocks in the Russell 3,000 are up more than 90% year to date. As shown, Ampio Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:AMPE) is up the most in 2011 with a gain of 224.58%. Biolase (BLTI) ranks second with a gain of 199.62%, followed by Global Crossing (NASDAQ:GLBC), Oncothyreon (ONTY), Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ:GMCR), Pharmasset (VRUS), and Glu Mobile (NASDAQ:GLUU). Other notables on the list of big winners so far in 2011 include Level 3 Communications (NASDAQ:LVLT), Hansen Medical (NASDAQ:HNSN), 8x8 (NASDAQ:EGHT), Weight Watchers (NYSE:WTW), Select Comfort (NASDAQ:SCSS), Vonage (NYSE:VG), and MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR).
