8 Companies to Consider That Are Reporting Earnings on Tuesday, Part VII

This is part VII and the last of the series on companies reporting Tuesday. If I used my standard criteria I would almost double the number of companies being covered. I used an average trading volume of one million shares per day as my cut off. Option premium is especially rich during earnings season, providing handsome rewards to those that get it right, and harsh punishments for those that fail.

Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. (WPI) is a $8.91 billion market cap company. Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Watson) is an integrated global pharmaceutical company engaged in the development, manufacturing, marketing, sale and distribution of generic and brand pharmaceutical products. It operates in three segments: Global Generics, Global Brands and Distribution. It operates in international markets, including Western Europe, Canada, Australasia, Asia, South America and South Africa with its commercial market being the United States of America.
The company reported (basic) $0.37 per share in earnings for the quarter ending March 31, 2011. The Quick Ratio is 1.42. The next reporting quarter estimated mean earnings are $1 per share. Analyst estimates range between $0.95 and $1.09 per share.

The current trailing twelve months (ttm) P/E ratio is 55.496 and the forward P/E ratio is 12.72. The falling P/E ratio is the result of expected future earnings increasing relative to the current price, and suggests bullishness in the company byinvestors . The stock has a price to book ratio (ttm) of 1.95. The price to sales ratio is 1.8. While I would not be comfortable buying this stock at these levels, the fact remains that the technicals look very positive. I would be concerned about a miss in guidence that may send the price much lower, but otherwise it looks rock solid.

In the last month the stock has moved in price 7.34%, with a one year change of 61.87%. Comparing to the S&P 500 price change, Watson Pharmaceutical's performance is 1.23% vs. the S&P 500 from a month ago, and the one year difference is 31.62% vs. S&P 500 price change.

The falling P/E ratio is the result of future earnings increasing relative to the current price and suggests bullishness in the company by analysts. The stock has a price to book ratio (ttm) of 3.9. A test above $19 a share would seem very reasonable in the next couple of weeks.

The International segment consists of its manufacturing facility in Denmark, whose customers include all of its distribution subsidiaries and third party distributors outside the North American operating segment.
