Below we highlight the percentage of stocks that have raised guidance this earnings season by sector. We also include the average percentage of stocks that have raised guidance by sector over the last ten years. As shown, the Technology sector has historically seen 14.3% of its stocks raise guidance each season, but this earnings season, just 8.9% of tech stocks have raised guidance. Health Care is another sector that has seen a low percentage of companies raise guidance this earnings season compared to its historical average.
On the positive side, the Industrials sector has seen 13.8% of its companies raise guidance this earnings season compared to a historical average of just 8.9%. As highlighted in a post from earlier today, however, this positive trend in guidance hasn't helped Industrials much. The Consumer Staples and Consumer Discretionary sectors are the only other two that are doing better than their historical averages in terms of raising guidance this earnings season.
