Jim Cramer is the host of CNBC's "Mad Money" show and the chairman of TheStreet.com. In 1987 Cramer started his own hedge fund and returned an average of 24% per year between 1987 and 2001. Cramer also authored six money management books.

In a recent article we stated that since the beginning of this year, the average return of these 20 high dividend-yielding S&P 500 stocks was 6.09%, beating the SPY by 2.33%. The second group of 20 stocks with lower dividend yields returned 3.29% on average, underperforming both the stocks in the first group and the SPY.

We compiled the list of high dividend paying stocks that have been recommended on Mad Money during the last 30 days. These 20 stocks returned 19.5% (including dividends) during the past 12 months. (The market data is sourced from Finviz and Yahoo Finance)

Annaly Capital is the highest dividend paying stock among the Cramer’s favorites. Annaly Capital is a real estate investment trust. NLY recently traded at $17.35 and has a 14.9% dividend yield. NLY gained 20.4% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $3.22 billion and P/E ratio of 4.18. Charles Clough’s Clough Capital Partners had $29 million invested in NLY shares. Ares Capital Corporation is a specialty finance company specializing in acquisition, recapitalization, mezzanine debt, restructurings, rescue financing and leveraged buyout transactions of middle market companies. ARCC recently traded at $15.71 and has an 8.6% dividend yield. ARCC gained 20.4% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $3.2 billion and a P/E ratio of 3.91. Charles Clough’s Clough Capital Partners and John Griffin’s Blue Ridge Capital had ARCC in their portfolios at the end of March.

Windstream Corporation provides various telecommunications services in the United States. Windstream recently traded at $11.94 and has a 8.2% dividend yield. WIN gained 12% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $6.1 billion and P/E ratio of 22.11.

Energy Transfer Partners provides natural gas midstream, and intrastate transportation and storage services in the United States. ETP recently traded at $46.2 and has a 7.5% dividend yield. ETP lost 1.8% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $9.7 billion and P/E ratio of 40.95. Jim Simons holds the largest ETP position among the funds we are tracking.
