With all the volatility last week, it's almost impossible to keep one’s head from spinning. Luckily this has thrown a lot of doubt into the market, which in our view always has the potential to offer some type of opportunity one way or another. The market may have ended up somewhat flat for the week but that can’t be said for individual stocks.
The forward PE ratio is a valuation metric that illustrates what Wall Street is willing to pay for a company’s future earnings relative to the current stock price. The ratio can either use the next full-year fiscal period or next 12 months. If earnings are expected to grow, then the forward PE ratio should be lower than the current PE ratio.
Operating margin is a profitability margin that illustrates what amount of revenue is left after variable and other costs are covered. A healthy operating margin is never frowned upon as it helps cover interest on debt and pay taxes. Investors generally look for trends over time relative to this ratio to get a better idea of how the company is performing.
