Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) sold more PCs in the fourth quarter than any other manufacturer, according to market research firm iSuppli, while Dell (DELL) held on to the top spot for all of 2006.

The top 5 for the quarter, ranked by market share:

  • Hewlett-Packard 17.4%
  • Dell 14.5%
  • Lenovo (OTCPK:LNVGY) 7.1%
  • Acer 6.6%
  • Toshiba (OTCPK:TOSBF) 3.7%
  • Others 50.7%
  • HP showed 21.1% growth in the fourth quarter in terms of units, while Dell shrank 8.6%. Acer grew 42.7%. For the full year, Dell had 16.3% share, just ahead of HP at 16%; but while HP grew 19% in units for the full year, Dell gained just 4.4%. Again, Acer outpaced both, growing 36.9%.

    In announcing the data, iSuppli said that HP is likely to make further market share gains with Dell continuing to go through a period of management and strategy changes.

    HP yesterday was up $1 at $39.75. Dell was up 3 cents at $22.56.
