With the recent market drop, it may be the time to invest in quality companies that are now paying a higher yield. I have reviewed semiconductors, as I have been following Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and others. My review of Semiconductors led me to go long Intel. I shorted September 19 puts (and wrote about it in an article you can read here).

I have now moved to the Broadcasting & Cable industry. An article I wrote that included Cablevision (NYSE:CVC) can be read here. In many ways I was glad that CVC made it as it was my favorite going into the list.

I hope this list is of as much value to you as it has been to me. I set up an EDGAR online screener to find the companies in the sector that pay a dividend. I don't want to look at all the stocks that pay a dividend, so I filtered the results based on the following:

  • Must trade at least 200K shares a day on average.
  • Dividend yield must be a minimum of 3%.
  • Must not have a payout ratio over 70% based on the last quarter.
Dividend Yield % Payout % PE Ratio Recent Price
SBGI 6.37 65.77 7.27 7.37
BLC 3.93 7.78 6.56 4.99
CVC 3.5 42.12 11.88 16.89
TWX 3.15 35.96 13.11 28.96
TWC 3.03 41.56 17.16 62.45
