While the S&P 500 has averaged a gain of just under 10% (9.9%) from its August 9th low, the average stock in the index has rallied 14.33% from its respective low this month. In the table below, we highlight the stocks in the index that have rallied more than 25% from their lows this month. Aided by a takeover offer from Google (GOOG), Motorola Mobility (MMI) tops the list with a rally of 81% off its low.
One interesting characteristic of the list is that while you would normally expect to see mostly low priced stocks on a list of top performers, there are several high priced stocks on the list as well. Two of the names are even trading in the triple-digits. CF Industries (CF) is up 40% from its August low of $134.40, while Ralph Lauren (RL) is up 29%.
