The New York Times article Facing Fraud Trial, Conrad Black Flouts the Rules (free registration required) is about a former highflying chieftain of Hollinger International Inc., formerly the third largest newspaper company in the world by circulation.

Black faces 14 charges including mail and wire fraud, racketeering, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. For those that do not know of Conrad Black, he is certainly a colorful person who will make the trial interesting. I highly recommend reading the article.

And for those that like to have some skin in the game with regard to the outcome of the trial, I direct you to Intrade Trading: Conrad Black Charges. Once the trial begins on Wednesday, I will enjoy watching how the market participants view the likely outcome.

Please note, I am not advocating participating or even endorsing Intrade. If you want to participate by trading, you must make your own independent decisions.

I hope that "Lord " Black does not display his traditional arrogance during trial by his peers - if he takes the stand or not in his defense.

Although I am not sure, I think his trial is by jury. I can't imagine any juror being able to relate to Conrad Black. He is so different from all the rest of us in his style and mannerisms. So if he does take the stand, it'll be interesting, to say the least. I can't wait.
