As the market continues to take a page from the yo-yo handbook we see this as a great opportunity for the long term. Good names and bad alike have been dropped meaning opportunity abounds for those willing to seek it out. One way to indentify potentially great companies is to look at their Return on Equity (ROE). This is a profitability ratio that illustrates the percentage return on shareholder equity. As well, this metric segments the company into operational efficiency, asset use efficiency, and financial leverage. Simply put this allows investors to get a real picture of how the company is generating these returns and helps indentify parts of the company that may be underperforming.

The 1-Year Fiscal Revenue Growth Rate represents a company’s growth over an extended period of time. This is one of many great metrics to use when trying to identify which companies are navigating the global economic landscape and to see which are generating positive, negative, or neutral growth trends.

We ran a screen for stocks that have underperformed the S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SPY) over the last month and have a 1-Year Fiscal Revenue Growth Rate of at least 30% or higher. From this narrowed pool we then screened for companies with a sound Return on Equity (TTM) (X>10%).
