High-dividend stocks deliver income and perform much better than the rest of the market both during market downturns and on the average. Some major market players also have high dividend yields. People can find much more information about large cap stocks and so therefore, the market valuations for these stocks are more accurate. If we do not have much intelligence about individual stocks and we want to invest for dividend payments, choosing high dividend large cap stocks is a good idea.

The stock has a market cap of $104.3 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 1.37 and a P/E ratio of 16.45. Phill Gross and Robert Atchinson had $149 million of VZ. Jim Simons also invested $114 million in VZ shares.

Altria Group is engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, smokeless products and wine. MO recently traded at $26.44 and has a 6.3% dividend yield. MO gained 14.27% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $54.1 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 2.95 and a P/E ratio of 15.82. Israel Englander and D. E. Shaw both bought more than 300,000 shares of MO during the most recent quarter.

Eli Lilly and Company develops, manufactures, and sells pharmaceutical products worldwide. LLY recently traded at $37.48 and has a 5.3% dividend yield. LLY gained 7.66% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $43.1 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 0.47 and P/E ratio of 8.74. Jim Simons increased his LLY holdings by 59% during the second quarter of 2011. On the other hand, Michael Karsch, Brett Barakett, Erez Kalir and Michael Messner all initiated more than $20 million worth of put options in this stock during the same quarter.

Enterprise Products Partners provides midstream energy services to producers and consumers of natural gas, NGLs, crude oil, refined products, and petrochemicals in North America. EPD recently traded at $40.67 and has a 6% dividend yield. EPD gained 8.64% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $35.4 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 1.27 and a P/E ratio of 25.8. Tom Gayner initiated a $10 million position in EPD during the second quarter of 2011.

Vodafone provides mobile telecommunication services worldwide. VOD recently traded at $26.17 and has a 5.6% dividend yield. VOD gained 7.7% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $135.4 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 0.44 and a P/E ratio of 11.14. Boykin Curry and Mason Hawkins both had more than $200 million invested in EPD at the end of June. Investment guru Jim Simons is another investor of VOD. He initiated a more than $100 million position in VOD during the most recent quarter.

GlaxoSmithKline manufactures and sells pharmaceutical products and health-related consumer products worldwide. GSK recently traded at $41.73 and has a 5.2% dividend yield. GSK gained 10.93% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $105.9 billion, Total Debt / Equity ratio of 1.76 and a P/E ratio of 21.66. Ken Fisher held 11.6 million shares of GSK at the end of June.
