For traders with a more short-term time horizon, we have compiled a list of the S&P 1500 stocks trading above $10 that have the largest intraday high-low ranges (based on the average percent spread between the intraday high and low over the last 50 days). We then grouped the stocks based on whether they have a rising or falling 50-day moving average.
There are currently 44 stocks within the S&P 1500 that have an average daily trading range of at least 7%. As shown, the vast majority of these names are all in short-term downtrends where their 50-day moving average is declining. One standout sector on the table is Energy where nine of the ten most volatile stocks with falling moving averages are all in that sector. Fossil (NASDAQ:FOSL) remains the most high priced volatile stock. The maker of watches and other accessories has seen an average high low range of about $7 a day!
