HP’s stock rose about 8.5% in late trading after it reported pro-forma EPS that beat consensus by four cents ($0.41 versus $0.37). HP’s total revenue was 8% higher than a year earlier.

Everything looked good. The different business units did as follows (year over year): service revenues up 13%, PCs up 9%, printing up 5% (with a significant rise in operating margins), enterprise servers and storage up 7%, software up 25% and financial services up 8% (though reserves for bad debt rose).  CEO Carly Fiorina even said that “We are seeing… an improving enterprise market and a so-so consumer market
