High-dividend stocks deliver income and perform much better than the rest of the market both during market downturns and on the average. Some major market players also have high dividend yields. People can find much more information about large cap stocks, and so therefore, the market valuations for these stocks are more accurate. If we do not have much intelligence about individual stocks and we want to invest for dividend payments, choosing high dividend large cap stocks is a good idea.

AT&T (T) is one of the leading telecomminication companies operating worldwide. T recently traded at $27.41 and has a 6.3% dividend yield. T gained 3.94% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $162.4 billion and P/E ratio of 13.91. T sold 16 million smartphones including more than 9 million iPhones in the first three quarters. According to company’s third quarter financial results, earnings per share was up 13% and EPS up 3.5% year to date, excluding significant items. T achieved $10.4 billion cash from operating activities. During the third quarter, T passes 100 million subscribers and achieved gains in every customer category. I believe that T will continue to be a major market player with its excellent dividend yield and strong financial structure.

General Electric (GE) is a technology, service and finance company operating worldwide. GE operates in more than 100 countries and employs about 300,000 people worldwide. GE recently traded at $14.7 and has a 4.1% dividend yield. GE lost 3.92% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $155.2 billion and P/E ratio of 12.05. GE announced 3Q 2011 operating earnings of $3.4 billion, up 11%, from the third quarter of 2010. 3Q revenues were $35.4 billion for the quarter were flat compared to revenues of $35.4 billion from the prior year’s quarter.

Pfizer (PFE) is a one of the leading biopharmaceutical companies operating worldwide. PFE recently traded at $18.45 and has a 4.3% dividend yield. PFE gained 16.62% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $141.8 billion and a P/E ratio of 14.53. Pfizer reported 3Q revenues of about $17.2 billion increased 7% quarter-over-quarter, which reflects operational growth of $247 million. Pfizer generated $19.6 billion cash and $11.5 billion net income during the last 12 months. I think that Pfizer is a stable stock and currently trading at a fair price.

Philip Morris (PM) manufactures and sells cigarettes and other tobacco products.PM recently traded at $71.31 and has a 4.3% dividend yield. PM gained 26.55% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $123.9 billion and P/E ratio of 15.08. Philip Morris expect to achieve annual EPS of at least $4.85 in 2011 compared to adjusted diluted EPS of $3.87 in 2010.

Verizon (VZ) provides communication services. Verizon is a Dow 30 company, employs more than 195,000 people and last year generated consolidated revenues of $106.6 billion.VZ recently traded at $35.35 and has a 5.7% dividend yield. VZ gained 15.67% during the past 12 months. The stock has a market cap of $100.1 billion, P/E ratio of 14.2. Verizon reported 3Q consolidated revenue of $27.9 billion increased 5.4% year-over-year. Verizon also reported EPS of $0.49 during the most recent quarter. Verizon increased annual dividends by 2.6% which reflects dividend increase for 5th consecutive year.
