With a new year around the corner, we decided to take a closer look at 2011's top performing S&P 500 stocks.

To create this list, we started with the top 200 performing stocks in the S&P 500 index during 2011.

To refine the list, we collected data on institutional money flows, and identified the S&P 500 champions that have seen significant institutional buying during the current quarter.
