Despite the challenges with consumer adoption of RSS, XML feeds have become the building blocks of online publishing. So Google’s (GOOG) acquisition of FeedBurner, the show-stealing feed management platform, for $100 million comes as no surprise.
The immediate applications are obvious — enhanced feed-based search, integration of feed stats into Google Analytics, integration of feed ad serving into AdSense — it’s really a no-brainer.
And it couldn’t have happened to a better company. I know a lot of the guys at FeedBurner — they are a class act. FeedBurner is a textbook example of how to build a great product with great people and dominate a market.
Congratulations to FeedBurner. And congratulations to Google for getting one step closer to owning the web.
