The Business Journal (subscription required) reported Wednesday that Digital River (ticker: DRIV) has expanded services in Asia by opening an office in Tokyo to assist American and especially international clients.

Commenting on the news, CEO Joel Ronning emphasized his firm's long-term strategy of expanding its "international footprint." Digital River also currently has international offices in Taipei, Taiwan and Cologne, Germany. A press release on Digital River's web site said the Tokyo office is a wholly-owned subsidiary and "will provide local sales, site design and account management services, as well as fulfillment of physical goods."
