Apollo Education: Terrible Management, But Probably A Good Trade

It appears that Apollo Education's (NASDAQ:APOL) days as a public company are coming to an end. The long-struggling operator of the University of Phoenix announced on Monday it was considering "strategic alternatives". That same day, The Wall Street Journal reported Apollo Education was in talks to sell itself to Apollo Global Management (NYSE:APO), with the deal value rumored to be in the $1 billion range.

(A note: Apollo Education Group and Apollo Global Management are not related in any way; they simply share similar names. Apollo Education Group's international business is referred to as "Apollo Global Inc.". In an attempt to limit confusion, I'll refer to Apollo Education Group as AEG, Apollo Global Management
