Chart Of The Day: S&P 500 Sector Buybacks

In the last five years, the US corporate sector has gone aggressive in terms of share buybacks, with $2.3 trillion worth of buybacks during this period.

The chart below shows the sectors that have contributed the most to the buyback spree in these five years.

In terms of buyback yield (LTM ended September 2015), the Industrials sector has a yield of 4.33%, followed by 4.15% for the IT sector and 4.01% for the Consumer Discretionary sector.

The lowest buyback yield is from the Utilities sector (0.6%), followed by 1.36% from the Telecommunication Services sector and 1.95% from the Energy sector.
