Digital audio company DTS, which provides surround-sound technology for consumers and movie studios, discussed the arrival of high-definition DVD -- and its two rival standards camps -- in its 3Q05 conference call. Key extracts:

… the best information we have today is that some time in Q2 the Blu-Ray camp will begin to release product, first, initially, through the PlayStation 3 product, which is expected to be released in Japan in the spring. The HD-DVD camp is talking about having product earlier in 2006… from our perspective overall, we expect to see revenue, I think in more material amounts, towards the back half of the year of Q3 and building into Q4. And I think it's fair to say that the business will likely accelerate through 2007, and that the marketing infrastructure for the products will really… kick in fully in 2007…

So, in short, I think we will see progress that is meaningful in the back half of 2006 and certainly throughout 2007. With regard to the status of the two formats, the best information I have is similar to what's been reported in the press, which is both camps are proceeding with their plans to go to market, yet there are reports that there are discussions going on, and we don't have any reason to not believe that… we are… neutrally supporting both formats to the best of our ability.
