Dividend stock selections continue to be of interest in the light of continuing low interest rates limiting the returns from bonds. We have seen that not all high dividend stocks are good value, however, and we are trawling through the many selections (over 60) we have reviewed to drill down to the best of the best and note the most commonly used. We have reviewed twenty selections so far and have rejected sixteen.
In this selection we have selections with 6,7, 8 and 9 stocks in which energy and energy distribution stocks are clearly visible along with a number of the usual suspects.

There are not repeats in any of these selections, and there is a full list of the stocks in each of these portfolios at the end of this article. We are keeping a tally of the most popular selections, and the leader board is:
| Ticker | Mention |
| JNJ | 4 |
| PG | 4 |
| INTC | 3 |
| KMB | 3 |
| NLY | 3 |
| SYY | 3 |
| WM | 3 |
There are several companies mentioned twice, but we will continue to prune the leader board to keep the list from being too long. After the next set of playoffs, we will put together a selection of the most popular and see how they perform.
Portfolio Performance Comparison
| Portfolio/Fund Name | YTD Return | 1Yr AR | 1Yr Sharpe | 3Yr AR | 3Yr Sharpe | 5Yr AR | 5Yr Sharpe |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Dividend Stocks Increasing Payouts in February 2012 | 10% | 15% | 45% | 33% | 108% | 18% | 49% |
| 7 Dividend Stocks Increasing Payouts in 2012 | 9% | 11% | 41% | 30% | 106% | 6% | 16% |
| Jim Royal`s August 2011 Huge Dividend Play | -5% | -3% | -37% | 36% | 149% | ||
| 9 Rock-Solid Dividend Stocks | 4% | -2% | -12% | 7% | 42% | ||
| 8 Dividend Stocks Increasing Payouts | -1% | 3% | -6% | 17% | 63% |
The four which are our current measuring stick:
| Portfolio/Fund Name | 1Yr AR | 1Yr Sharpe | 3Yr AR | 3Yr Sharpe | 5Yr AR | 5Yr Sharpe |
| Fools 5 Dividend Payers to Save your Portfolio | 26% | 172% | 21% | 137% | 11% | 55% |
| 13 High Yielding Stocks | 1% | 6% | 19% | 89% | 6% | 22% |
| 3 Bargain Dividends Investors Should Buy Today | 27% | 150% | 24% | 135% | ||
| 4 Special Dividend Plays | 16% | 59% | 26% | 98% |
Comparing the two tables, I think that the top two -- the 7 dividend selections have a shout at being included. They run close to each other until we get to the five year mark, where the top selection is the clear leader. I think that it kicks out the 13 High Yielding stock selection.
When I look at the five year charts, we can see that the 7 Dividend stock selection is the clear leader, with Jim Royal's huge dividend play having a shout but dropping off in the shorter term. We have a worthy addition to the benchmark which we will install.
