In a day of profit taking the Nikkei 225, TOPIX Index, and JASDAQ were all down today. A look at the numbers and advancers/decliners below.
Nikkei 225: -24.27 (-0.17%) to close at 14,091.77, opened nearly 50-points lower, intra-day high at 14,142.27, intra-day low at 14,043.45
TOPIX: -7.95 (-0.54%) to close at 1,472.47, opened slight lower, intra-day high at 1,482.17, intra-day low at 1,471.57
JASDAQ: -0.03 (-0.03%) to close at 108.53, traded in 108 range throughout the day
Yen: broke into Y119/US$1 for new multi-month lows
* Chugai Pharmaceutical led all stocks today, soaring 6.63%, after its parent company Roche Holding AG reported that its Tamiflu (anti-flu) drug was not responsible for the death of two Japanese teenage boys. (Reuters)
* Mitsubishi affiliated company shares took a beating today as 5 Mitsubishi companies suffered 2.0% or more losses on the day.
** Chugai Pharma and many of the Mitsubishi affiliated companies down today are components of iShares Japan Index (ticker: EWJ).
