By now, everyone's heard of hedge funds using Twitter sentiment analysis to come up with trading ideas.

The idea is simple yet powerful. Social media platforms like Twitter create massive amounts of data on real-time sentiment. If you can filter out the noise (and Justin Bieber fans), you could find some interesting trading ideas from the 250M+ daily tweets.

From Reuters:

"It won't make you a millionaire overnight, but it does work," said Richard Gardner, president and CEO of Modulus Financial Engineering, which amasses historic Twitter data for hedge funds and research firms to crunch. "The markets are moved by emotion, and I think this is going to be the future of trading. You can actually see global moods moving up and down in real time."

There have also been several academic papers suggesting that tweets could be correlated with stock market performance. John Bollen, for example, recently submitted a paper suggesting Twitter mood states could be used to predict the daily up and down changes in the DJIA.

What's more, they claim an accuracy of 87.6% in their model. You can find the complete paper here.

To explore this topic, we've built our own sentiment analysis technology, built specifically to analyze the tweets that contain specific ticker mentions (e.g. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is tagged as $AAPL, a common practice on Twitter to tag tweets on specific companies).

To compile the list below, we crunched sentiment data on about 21K Tweets mentioning 2450 specific stock tickers, all from Friday's trading session. (Note: If you want to access the raw data used to compile these stats, send us a message with your email address, and we'd send you the excel file that contains all the analytics.)

For this article, we wanted to focus on oversold stocks, as defined by the RSI(14) indicator, that have seen bullish sentiment on Twitter during Friday's trading session.
