In one of the few articles to discuss Google's telecom and WiFi plans intelligently, Robert Cringely argues that Google's goal is to bring storage and processing closer to Internet peering points so that Google can become the repository of everyone's data. He writes:
There will be the Internet, and then there will be the Google Internet, superimposed on top... The Google Internet will be faster, safer, and cheaper. With the advent of widespread GoogleBase... there's suddenly a new kind of marketplace for data with everything a transaction in the most literal sense as Google takes over the role of trusted third-party info-escrow agent for all world business. That's the goal.
