Below is a list of the retailers that have released their March same-store sales numbers so far. The list is sorted from best to worst based on how the number came in versus expectations. As shown Cato (CATO), TJX, Ross Stores (ROST) and Zumiez (ZUMZ) had the strongest numbers versus expectations, all beating by more than 4 percentage points. Gap (GPS), Limited (LTD), Nordstrom (JWN) and Macy's (M) all posted strong numbers as well.
Five companies out of the 19 listed posted same-store sales numbers that were weaker than expected -- Stein Mart (SMRT), Wet Seal (WTSLA), Bon-Ton (BONT), Buckle (BKE) and Costco (COST).
