Stocks With Highest, Lowest Short Interest

The most recent short interest numbers were released over the past few days, so below we highlight the updated data for stocks in the Russell 1,000. The table below highlights the stocks currently with the highest and lowest short interest as a percentage of float.

As shown, IndyMac (IMB) has the highest short interest at 61.39% of its float. IMB is followed by NTRI (40.28%), KBH (28.49%) and MTG (28.17%). A lot of the names on the most heavily shorted list are homebuilders. This means that any hint of positive news usually pushes the stocks up quite a bit. We've seen large rallies in homebuilders in recent days, only to see the group drift back lower.

ANAT, WSC, FCNSA, ACGL and MTD are the five stocks in the Russell 1,000 with the lowest short interest.
