The next four weeks will serve for a busy earnings season, with many quarterly earnings releases scheduled and a bunch of stocks to watch. In this article, I will focus on oil and gas industry stocks from the energy sector that have earnings due in the upcoming weeks. These stocks were selected based on popularity, volume and, more importantly, significant price changes expected due to earnings results and forecasts.

This article provides earnings previews on several stocks to consider in anticipation of their earnings reports. Use this list as a potential starting point for your analysis.

ConocoPhillips (COP): April 23, 2012

ConocoPhillips is an international integrated energy company. The company's segments include Exploration and Production (E&P), which primarily explores for, produces, transports and markets crude oil, bitumen, natural gas, liquefied natural gas and natural gas liquids on a worldwide basis; Midstream, which gathers, processes and markets natural gas produced by ConocoPhillips and others, and fractionates and markets natural gas liquids, predominantly in the United States and Trinidad; Refining and Marketing (R&M), which purchases, refines, markets and transports crude oil and petroleum products, mainly in the United States, Europe and Asia; Chemicals, which manufactures and markets petrochemicals and plastics on a worldwide basis; and Emerging Businesses, which represents its investment in new technologies or businesses outside the Company's normal scope of operations.

ConocoPhillips has a market cap of $93.74 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on April 23, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $54.39 billion when compared to $56.53 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $2.08 a share from $1.82 a share in the year ago period. ConocoPhillips is currently trading around $73.63 with a 52 week range of $58.65 to $81.50.

Exxon Mobil Corporation (XOM): April 26, 2012

Exxon Mobil Corporation (Exxon Mobil) is a manufacturer and marketer of commodity petrochemicals, including olefins, aromatics, polyethylene and polypropylene plastics and a range of specialty products. It also has interests in electric power generation facilities. The company has a number of divisions and affiliates with names that include ExxonMobil, Exxon, Esso or Mobil. Divisions and affiliated companies of ExxonMobil operate or market products in the United States and other countries of the world.

Exxon Mobil has a market cap of $390.96 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on April 26, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $125.69 billion compared to $114.00 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $2.05 a share from $2.14 a share in the year ago period. Exxon Mobil is currently trading around $82.95 with a 52 week range of $67.03 to $88.13.

Noble Energy, Inc. (NBL): April 26, 2012

Noble Energy, Inc. (Noble Energy) is an independent energy company engaged in worldwide oil and gas exploration and production. Noble Energy has operations in five core areas: the DJ Basin (onshore United States), the Marcellus Shale (onshore United States), the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (offshore United States), offshore West Africa and offshore Eastern Mediterranean.

Noble Energy has a market cap of $16.89 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on April 26, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $1.09 billion compared to $899.00 million for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $1.38 a share from $1.35 a share in the year ago period. Noble Energy is currently trading around $94.46 with a 52 week range of $65.91 to $105.46.

TOTAL S.A. (ADR) (TOT): April 27, 2012

TOTAL SA is a France-based integrated international oil and gas company. With operations in more than 130 countries, TOTAL engages in all aspects of the petroleum industry, including Upstream operations (oil and gas exploration, development and production, liquefied natural gas and Downstream operations (refining, marketing and the trading and shipping of crude oil and petroleum products). It also produces base chemicals (petrochemicals and fertilizers) and specialty chemicals for the industrial and consumer markets. In addition, TOTAL has interests in the coal mining and power generation sectors. It is also active in solar-photovoltaic power, both in Upstream and Downstream activities.

Total has a market cap of $107.68 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on April 27, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $63.63 billion. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $1.74 a share from $1.89 a share in the year ago period. Total is currently trading around $47.77 with a 52 week range of $40.00 to $64.44.

Chevron Corporation (CVX): April 27, 2012

Chevron Corporation (Chevron) manages its investments in subsidiaries and affiliates and provides administrative, financial, management and technology support to the United States and international subsidiaries that engage in petroleum operations, chemicals operations, mining operations, power generation and energy services.

Chevron has a market cap of $199.24 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on April 27, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $72.41 billion compared to $60.34 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $3.2 a share from $3.09 a share in the year ago period. Chevron is currently trading around $100.78 with a 52 week range of $86.68 to $112.28.

Marathon Oil Corporation (MRO): May 1, 2012

Marathon Oil Corporation (Marathon Oil) is an international energy company engaged in exploration and production, oil sands mining and integrated gas with operations in the United States, Angola, Canada, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Libya, Norway, Poland and the United Kingdom. The Company operates in three segments: Exploration and Production (E&P), Oil Sands Mining (OSM) and Integrated Gas (IG).

Marathon Oil has a market cap of $20.92 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on May 1, 2012, after market close. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $3.45 billion when compared to $21.07 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be 87 cents a share from 88 cents a share in the year ago period. Marathon Oil is currently trading around $29.7 with a 52 week range of $19.13 to $54.33.

BP plc (ADR) (BP): May 1, 2012

BP p.l.c. (BP) is an international oil and gas company. BP operates its products in more than 80 countries, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products. The Company operates two segments: Exploration and Production and Refining and Marketing.

BP has a market cap of $20.92 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on May 1, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $89.90 billion. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $1.64 a share from $1.75 a share in the year ago period. BP is currently trading around $29.7 with a 52 week range of $19.13 to $54.33.

Valero Energy Corporation (VLO): May 1, 2012

Valero Energy Corporation (Valero) is an independent petroleum refining and marketing company. Valero's refineries can produce conventional gasoline's, distillates, jet fuel, asphalt, petrochemicals, lubricants, and other refined products, as well as a slate of premium products, including conventional blendstock for oxygenate blending and reformulated gasoline blendstock for oxygenate blending, gasoline meeting the specifications of the California Air Resources Board, a diesel fuel, and low-sulfur and ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel.

Valero has a market cap of $13.40 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on May 1, 2012, before market open. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $28.81 billion when compared to $26.31 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be 20 cents a share from 18 cents a share in the year ago period. Valero is currently trading around $24.14 with a 52 week range of $16.40 to $29.55.

Sunoco, Inc. (SUN): May 3, 2012

Sunoco, Inc., through its subsidiaries, conducts its operations as a petroleum refiner and marketer and chemicals manufacturer with interests in logistics and cokemaking. The refining, marketing, logistics and chemicals operations were conducted principally in the eastern half of the United States and the cokemaking operations were conducted in Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Vitoria, Brazil.

Sunoco has a market cap of $4.05 billion and will report its first quarter earnings results on May 3, 2012, after market close. The first quarter revenues are expected to be $6.50 billion when compared to $10.64 billion for the same quarter last year. Earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be 4 cents a share from loss of $1.01 a share in the year ago period. Sunoco is currently trading around $37.9 with a 52 week range of $27.36 to $43.43.
