Real-Estate Stocks Fuel Nikkei's Rebound Back Over 15,500, ADRs to Watch (ATE, NMR, SANYY, MTU)

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 1.62% while the TOPIX rose 1.56%. The rise today was led by real-estate stocks but also featured a broad basket of gainers among which those with ADRs performed modestly. Grabbing headlines today was news that Takuo Tsurushima, president of the Tokyo Stock Exchange resigned after two computer related problems in just six-weeks. He told the press, "We need all our best efforts to build new systems that can restore investor faith."
Nikkei 225: +249.78 (+1.62%) closed at 15,641.26, opened a few points lower than prior close of 15,391.48, intra-day high was 15,641.26, traded as low as 15,365.39
TOPIX: +24.75 (+1.56%) closed at 1,613.99, opened a few points higher than prior close of 1,589.24, traded as high as 1,614.56 and as low as 1,589.25
JASDAQ: +1.67 (+1.41%) closed at 120.41, traded between 119.23 and 120.42
Yen: last reported rate Y116.67/US$1
