Wish you could get an idea of what company insiders thought of the prospects of their own company? One way is to look at insider stock buying trends, which can indicate how optimistic a company's insiders are.

We ran a screen with this idea in mind, beginning with stocks priced under $5 a share for those with strong upward momentum, rallying above their 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages.

We then screened for those with strong optimism from their company insiders, with strong net insider purchases over the last six months representing at least 1% of share float. Because most companies only have a few insiders - such as members of the board and upper management - net purchases representing 5% or more of the share float are a big show of confidence.
