Send SMS Messages for Free
If you're in front of the computer and need to send a quick SMS message to a friend, its easy enough to do it for free so you might as well. For US cellular phones, Google's send-to-phone format is the most basic and easiest to use. SMS Everywhere is also limited to US cell phones and provides a few additional options for a payment, including bulk messaging.
Gizmo and Send SMS Now expand out to international destinations where sending a free SMS is a fantastic way to communicate cheaply across oceans. Gizmo has more countries listed and a simpler template than Send SMS Now.

Comments
There is a site that allows up to 10 messages per day to be sent for free. Lots of sites put a lower limit.

Receivers have to pay, but so far as I know it is nominal, and if the recipient already has an SMS plan of his/her own, then it will be free.
my mom said the latest she can get me is 7
Of course, this might be free to the sender; but the recipient may have to pay. Cell phone service providers do sell the service, so if a user has paid the monthly fee, then it will be free to him/her. But if not, they will get the bill.
