The Stalwart submits: Monday's announcement that supermarket chain Albertson's (ABS) would be acquired gave more evidence that savvy buyers are learning the value of teamwork. Like the VNU offer, Albertson's will be acquired by a group of buyers which, in this case, includes Supervalu (SVU), CVS Corp. (CVS), as well as private equity group Cerberus Capital Management, which will continue to operate Albertson's branded outlets.
The significance of a tag-team buyout is that bidding won't go crazy, and end up with a winner who has sorely overpaid. Definitely a trend worth keeping an eye out for.
