It may seem strange to say this but the Globeinvestor.com stock filter is a handy tool for analyzing exchange traded funds (ETF). There is a field that allows the user to select securities by type, such as preferred shares, warrants, and ETFs. Just select the latter type and then TSX in the market field to get a table of ETFs trading in Canada – all 70 of them (including Claymore’s Advisor class).

The stock filter is thus a quick and easy way to survey what ETFs are available in Canada, and to gather info on them by drilling down for quotes, dividend yield, charts, news, price histories, trading volume, etc. One can also click on the column headers to rank volumes, price changes, etc. from highest to lowest or vice versa.

If one selects the NYSE, AMEX or NASDAQ markets in the filter, with the security type set to ETF, they can list ETFs in the Unitetd States. The number reported by the globeinvestor.com screener is 241 on the NYSE, 384 on the AMEX, and 25 on the NASDAQ, for a total of 650.
