The top grade a company can get from rating agency Standard & Poors is AAA. Only six companies today sport the elite rating: Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Exxon Mobil (XOM), General Electric (GE), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Pfizer (PFE), and United Parcel Service (UPS).
Interestingly, on a forward P/E basis, none of this elite crew is screamingly overpriced, and some even appear cheap:
Company.....Forward P/E
ADP..........20.2
XOM..........11.7
GE...........14.5
JNJ..........15.1
PFE..........11.9
UPS..........18.6
There’s obviously more to valuation than a forward P/E, but there are many worse places to shop than the AAA list.
