Verizon Wireless Plans: Are You Joking?

Sometimes, the differences between national pricing for the exact same services staggers me.

In the US, Verizon (VZ) Wireless has just revamped its mobile data plans. It now has two plans - one at $40, and one at $60. Fair enough, you might think. Except that the $60 plan has 100x the bandwidth cap of the $40 one - 5GB vs 50MB.

This compares to the now-standard UK rates of $20 for 1GB, and $30 for 3GB per month with 3G modems, or about $15 for pseudo-flatrate data (typically in the 100's of MB at least) on handsets.

In other words, rather than going for small / medium / large, Verizon has decided to segment its customer base between just "occasional" and "lots" (i.e. business user). It appears absolutely uninterested in the massmarket consumer mobile broadband market that seems to be blazing a trail across Europe.

LOL - Why? when you can get unlimited from Sprint, faster service, more service area.... LOL @ VZ

verizon must be doing something right. almost all people i know that need this service are with this co. in fact just this morning one of my close friends is having his house wired by horizon-believe me he checks out everything to the last penny.

Verizon also has high prices on internet compared to UK and others like Japan & S. Korea. They just got shutdown on their attempt to get rid of RURAL landlines sold since they cannot get any profit from them, but unless you live in an area that is concentrated with customers - you'll never get FIOS. Wait? for Wi-Max!! Rusty
