Nintendo Capitalizes on Game Console Momentum; Profits Up 48%

Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) has released financial results for the year ending March 31 2008. The videogame publisher's revenue increased by 73% to ¥1.67 trillion ($16.1bn) while profits increased 48% to ¥257.3 billion ($2.5bn).

The company sold 30.3 million Nintendo DS units in the year, bringing the handheld's total life-to-date sales to 70.6. It sold 18.6 million Wii consoles during the year, bringing that system's life-to-date sales to 24.5 million.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl has sold 4.85 million copies in Japan and the United States, while Wii Fit has managed to sell 1.85 million copies in Japan alone. The game will be released this May in North America.
Nintendo expects sales of ¥1.80 trillion ($17.3bn) and earnings of ¥325 billion ($3.1bn) for the full fiscal year.
