The Aerocool Spandex Pique Polo is Currently Selling Best with Sport-Haley (OTCPK:SPOR), Survey Says
With summer months approaching, Tickermine surveyed Sport-Haley, Inc., the women's golf apparel company, this month. The company recently reported positive unaudited earnings for its second fiscal quarter with rises of 5%. Our surveyors approached 26 stores stocking Sport-Haley across the nation and asked which were the most popular items, whether these items were sufficiently stocked and whether worries about the economy had affected business at all? Department stores such as Macy's (M), as well as smaller boutiques and golf pro stores, were consulted.
Currently the most popular item is the Aerocool Spandex Pique Polo, according to 10 respondents or 38% of those polled. The Desert Diamond Collection was also popular according to six people or 23% of respondents. The Flat Knit Rib Sweatshirt was cited three times or by 11% of respondents. Golf shoes and lightweight jackets were cited twice (8%) and the lycra jersey short sleeve polo, Shearling Vest and the Fire Collection were each cited once or by 4% of those polled. 21 respondents or 81% said they had enough of these items in stock right now, while five or 19% said they did not. Over the last year, several items have been popular with customers, including the Aerocool spandex products (nine respondents or 35%), golf shorts, and then basic polos (four or 15%), V-Neck Cable Sweaters were cited three times (12%), the Desert Diamond Collection and the 3/4 sleeve V-neck sweaters were each cited twice (8%). The reversible micro-fiber vest and sleeveless jackets were each cited once (4%). Four respondents or 15% reported being currently overstocked on these items and 22 people or 85% of respondents said they were not. 14 respondents or 54% of those interviewed said they were not expecting a new line of clothing this year, while 12 people or 46% said they were expecting new gear and cited the Desert Diamond range and the Spring 2008 collections. Eight respondents or 31% thought that economic worries were impacting sales at this store and 18 people or 69% were confident that the economy had no impact at all.
Bebe Stores (BEBE) Report Being Busy; Flippy Ruffle Skirt Is Best Item for Spring
We recently polled Bebe stores nationwide in a follow up to our April survey. This time we polled 32 locations. Of those stores, 56% reported the store as being above average and 16% said it was very strong when asked how busy the store was. This is a healthy boost from April's returns, which indicated that only 21% of locations felt business was above average or very strong.
In our current survey, 28% felt traffic was average. Exactly half of the stores said they had excess inventory which would go on sale soon, consistent with the 45% that gave the same answer in April. The best new item for spring was found to be the Flippy Ruffle skirt 25% of the time and the dress category 19% of the time in our May survey. Best sellers are short sleeve tops and skirts, each with 16% of the responses, and dresses and halter tops, each with 13% of responses.
Liz Claiborne (LIZ) Reports Above Average Sales This Month
Eighteen (62%) out of twenty-nine Liz Claiborne stores across the country reported that sales were above average this month compared to last month. Fourteen (48%) stores continued to report having excess inventory of jeans, winter clothing and jackets. When asked whether they believed that the weak housing market and economy was hurting their store, only nine (31%) reported that it did. Twenty stores (70%) said that business was not affected by the perceived slump in economy.
Teen Girls and Women Are Most Avid Skechers (SKX) Customers
TickerMine polled shoe sellers across the country, including Shoe Pavilion, Nordstrom, Famous Footwear, The Sports Authority, and Skechers stores, and learned that Perfect Canvas is the best-selling main Skechers shoe category for 41% of stores. Perfect Styles Molded was the next most popular category (38%). Publicly Traded was also a hit (21%).
Skechers are most popular with teen girls (41%) and women (35%). The most popular shoe this season is the Women's Heatwave (21%), followed by Women's Flappers (18%) . Women's Street Cleats, Boys' Urban Track, and Women's Calies were also strong sellers, each mentioned by 12% of stores.
