There are many different strategies to trade and one of them is to look for dividend stocks. Investors like dividend stocks as long-term investments, as these dividend payments tend to protect the stock price from the market volatility that affects non-dividend paying stocks. However, careful analysis of dividend stocks and choosing the right dividend stocks at the right time is critical for investors.

In this article, I will focus on small cap stocks with a high dividend yield and with their ex-dividend date within the next week (August 13 to August 17). These stocks are screened based on the following criteria:

  • Security Type: Common Stock
  • Market Cap: Greater than $250 million and less than $2 billion
  • Dividend Yield: Greater than or equal to 4%
  • Ex-Dividend Date: Between August 13, 2012 and August 17, 2012

1. MCG Capital Corporation (MCGC): MCG Capital is a private equity firm specializing in investments in middle market companies. MCG Capital has a market cap of $337.0M and is currently trading around $4.62 with a 52 week range of $3.40 to $5.08. The dividend amount is 14 cents per share - which is 12.28% dividend yield. The Ex-Dividend date is August 15, 2012, Record date is August 17, 2012 and the dividend payout date is August 31, 2012. The stock has 14.29% returns for the year 2012.

2. Just Energy Group Inc (OTC:JSTEF): Just Energy Group engages in the sale of natural gas and/or electricity to residential and commercial customers under the Just Energy, Hudson Energy, Commerce Energy, Amigo Energy, and Tara Energy trade names in Canada and the United States. Just Energy Group has a market cap of $1.6B and is currently trading around $11.35 with a 52 week range of $9.81 to $14.15. The dividend amount is 10.333 cents per share - which is 11.09% dividend yield. 3. Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT): Nordic American Tankers is an international tanker company, owns and operates double hull crude oil tankers.
