Analyst Views

In a July 15 note to clients, Deutsche Bank said shares of Amazon could react positively "to the announcement of a third-party payment service," which would allow online merchants to Amazon's payment processing features. As Amazon has nearly 80 million paying customers and 100,000 merchants, the firm believes this type of service could compete quite effectively with eBay's (EBAY) PayPal over time. Deutsche sees continued fundamental growth, improved operating leverage and the long term potential of Amazon's technology investments.

According to a source, sales of Amazon's Kindle have doubled in the past two months. While Pacific Crest believes eBooks may have a negative impact on margins, as some of the major publishers find that Kindle and Amazon are subsidizing the cost of eBooks by 25%, the firm expects eBooks to become a growth driver in the long term.

Tech Crunch expects Amazon to release a new version of Kindle this fall. The New York Times reported on July 17 that Amazon will launch Amazon Video on Demand, a new online store of TV shows and movies, which will allow users to watch movies and TV shows immediately after ordering them.

alternative payment method is different from Paypal.
this company makes next to nothing, even with that $30 billion dollar market cap.

If I had $30 bil in market cap, investing in gold in 2005 to 2007 would give me a return of 300% . . . . I'd grow the company to $90 billion and let the stock tank . . . . . and purchase my company back to be privately held so that no one would get into my business since my business is so weak and it sucks so much (eg: Amazon.com)
