Reuters reports that Shinsei Bank sought to differentiate itself from competitors by hosting popular Starbucks (SBUX) kiosks at its branch offices. Now it's rival Aozora Bank's time to step up its identity and attract more retail customers. Although it won't exactly be obvious to customers that Macs are being used by Aozora tellers and staff, the idea is to boost productivity and morale among workers by embracing new and aesthetically-pleasant technology.
Apple (AAPL) stands to benefit because Aozora is now its biggest financial client worldwide. Aozora's CTO said the firm chose to go with Macs because of "ease of use, reputation for security and flexible UNIX-based platform." A senior market director at Apple said its
adoption of the UNIX standard several years ago, [is] a key step to making Macs more compatible with other systems. We're dealing with government agencies, science and technology firms, even trucking companies.
