There are many different strategies to trade, and one of them is to look for dividend stocks. Investors like dividend stocks as long-term investments, as these dividend payments tend to protect the stock price from the market volatility that affects non-dividend paying stocks. However, careful analysis of dividend stocks and choosing the right dividend stocks at the right time is critical for investors.

In this article, I will focus on stocks (market cap of $250 million and above) with a high dividend yield and with their ex-dividend date within the next week (October 22 to October 26). These stocks are screened based on the following criteria:

  • Security Type: Common Stock

  • Market Cap: Greater than $250 million

  • Dividend Yield: Greater than or equal to 2.5%

  • Ex-Dividend Date: Between October 22, 2012 and October 26, 2012

1. Compass Diversified Holdings (NYSE:CODI): Compass Diversified Holdings is a public investment firm specializing in acquiring controlling stakes in small to middle market companies. Compass Diversified Holdings has a market cap of $745.3 million and is currently trading around $15.43 with a 52 week range of $11.24 to $15.58. The dividend amount is 36 cents per share which is 9.33% dividend yield. The Ex-Dividend date is October 22, 2012, Record date is October 24, 2012 and the dividend payout date is October 31, 2012. The stock has 24.54% returns for the year 2012.

2. Mesabi Trust (NYSE:MSB): Mesabi Trust operates as a royalty trust in the United States. The company produces iron ore pellets.
