Part VI: Conclusion – Summary, valuation, and risks

This is the final part of my six-part series on Mannkind (MNKD). Be sure to see Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5, if you have not done so already. I will now summarize the key points and get into valuation.

Mannkind is a development-stage biotech company, which is close to filing for FDA approval for its first product, Technosphere Insulin. (They have some other products in their pipeline, all in early stages, but they’re not so important. See Part 5 for more discussion about them.) Technosphere Insulin is an inhaled form of meal-time insulin with 4 key advantages. (See Part 1 and Part 3 for more details).

Part II: Pfizer’s (PFE) cancer announcement and its irrelevance to Mannkind’s (MNKD) future 

As I explained in detail in Part 1 of this series (see here if you missed it), Mannkind has a potential home run with Technosphere Insulin, their upcoming drug for diabetes. Technosphere Insulin is an inhaled insulin which is more convenient for patients and, more importantly, has significant medical advantages. It has lower rates of hypoglycemia (dangerously low levels of blood sugar) than conventional injected insulin, and promotes weight loss instead of the weight gain common with conventional insulin. 

Part I: Inhaled Insulin, the wave of the future

This is the first part of a six-part series on Mannkind – an overlooked, unfollowed company whose stock has dropped rapidly to around $3 a share. After an extensive analysis, I believe we have here an uncommon opportunity to profit from the market’s ignorance.

Mannkind is a biotech company which is close to bringing to market their first product, inhaled insulin for diabetes (they expect to file for approval by the end of this year). Before delving into the details of their inhaled insulin and their drug pipeline, I will summarize in short the information from all their clinical trials and tests. In short: It works. A bit longer: It’s better, safer, and loads more convenient than conventional insulin.
