Great insight - thanks. My initial interest was sparked by the end markets they serve too. Very different drivers than DDD/SSYS

Thanks, Brian. By the way, I know I complimented you on the article, but I also meant to say congrats on becoming an author. Nice job!

I was just trying to provide examples of IPOs that soared after and didn't lead to huge losses. I didn't use FB!

I need to do more work on XONE. Do you recall if the IPO was shares sold by the company, insiders or a PE firm looking to exit?

That is so far from the truth, Ryan Griffin. They have grown dramatically over the past four years, though M&A has been part of that. XONE is a monster - looking for an entry...

I didn't meet Dan, though I met with the CFO. I am somewhat concerned that Dan has not lived up to what I expected. I had high hopes! He made it real clear that he is about growth, while Ron was great at fixing problems. My near-term disappointment isn't a permanent conclusion - he certainly has had some external challenges. One issue that I noticed was that he didn't have a very good grasp of their energy exposure, and the slowdown has indeed hurt them. If I am not mistaken, his background was in Applied Technology. So, my bottom-line is that on paper, he seemed like he would be a fantastic successor, while the way it has played out so far would indicate that he still needs to prove himself.

Thanks, Nico. There was an I.R. firm called CNN Microcap News that was promoting the company. My digging there revealed that this entity was devoted solely to the company. The guy doing all the videos is a drummer in a band. The company uses social media pretty heavily. I am less focused on who is behind these "Seeking Alpha" promotions than on potential securities laws violations, as they have received Cease and Desist orders in three states in the last several years.

Nice review. I have been following the company for several years and even visited them, but your discussion included some things I hadn't yet learned.

I have a question for you about your valuation. While I might quibble over the exact multiples you are using, where I really see an issue is that you appear not to include corporate overhead. You have assigned valuations to the three segments but have omitted the unallocated portion. It's rather substantial - $18mm of operating income in 2012 (FY13) and over $19mm of EBITDA. Is this an oversight, or did I not understand your analysis?

I appreciate your take, and I am no expert here at all, but I feel that you are underestimating the potential big-time. You raise a good point about the business model differing from SSYS/DDD, but service centers will produce recurring revenue if I understand the model correctly. In 2012, 45% of sales was related to parts and service and not new machine sales.

Also, your 15PE seems quite low considering the growth, and I would add that it isn't rational to talk down a successful IPO by warning people about the IPO price as if it had real meaning. Companies will often sell a small piece at a low price to create a favorable tape. Should we short WDAY or PANW? Maybe so! That's not the point though...

By the way, the IPO priced at $18.
